The Eagles-Cowboys rivalry has seen it all. From Landry to Vermeil, ‘The Triplets to ‘Gang Green’, the famous Bounty Bowl’s and each team getting their time with T.O., no rivalry in the NFC East boils the blood like Philly vs. Dallas. Just look at what some of our bloggers wrote back in October when asked which opponent they hated most:

Eagles blogger James T. Chariman:{The Cowboys} just stand for everything we hate.

Cowboys blogger Brian Cooley:Eagles' fans want the opposition to fear and loathe them, and on the latter hope, I am glad to comply.

Last Sunday was the 101st chapter in the rivalry, and after the Dallas shutout, the all-time scoreboard read 57 wins for the Cowboys and 44 for the Eagles. Here are some interesting stats courtesy of the Philadelphia Daily News on the series, with the two game’s during the past regular season not accounted for. Pretty much every advantage goes to the Cowboys, including playoff games, with Dallas winning two of the three.

The most recent of those three postseason meetings was exactly 14 years ago - January 7, 1996 - in the old Texas Stadium in the NFC Divisional round. In the coldest game ever recorded at the building (26 degrees), Dallas’ defense proved to be the difference, leading the Cowboys to a 30-11 victory. The Cowboys knocked out Eagles starting QB Rodney Peete and harassed backup Randall Cunningham in the blowout, with Deion Sanders running for a touchdown on offense and intercepting Cunningham to seal the win.

Linemen Tony Tolbert, Chad Hennings and Leon Lett applied the pressure on both quarterbacks as well as running back Ricky Waters, keeping the Eagles out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter. Troy Aikman and the Cowboys offense did the rest, with the future Hall-of-Famer throwing for 253 yards and a touchdown.

Three weeks following the Cowboys-Eagles playoff game, Dallas defeated Pittsburgh 27-17 to win Super Bowl XXX. Later that year, in December of 1996, the Cowboys beat the Vikings in an NFC Wild Card game.

Since then, Dallas is 0-6 in the postseason. In that same time span, the Eagles have won nine playoff games and reached a Super Bowl. All-time history is on Dallas’ side; recent history rests in Philadelphia.

Saturday night, a new chapter is written.
