When I asked No. 85 David Thomas of the New Orleans Saints who would be the first person he would call if they won the big game he simply replied, “My tight end coach back at Texas.”

I wonder what his coach would say? Maybe “Thomas, you missed your assignment on that last third and long” or “Hey kid get me a hat.”

Ah, media day at the Super Bowl. It’s a gathering of journalists (and not so journalistic folks) for the purpose of showering the competing teams with questions in an attempt to find an undiscovered

nugget of information to share with the world. Yes, folks, yours truly was present Tuesday representing NFL Blog Blitz/SportsFanLive.com, and since I am more fan than journalist I entertained myself by listening in to the real sports reporters, taking pictures of the players, and talking to strange journalists from around the world - - and Los Angeles.

The big names drew the big crowds – just like they always do. Brees and Manning, Bush and Freeney held court while the press listened and probed. The Colts went first and filed into the media rooms set up in the Club Level Food Court at Sun Life Stadium. The NFL used eight separate interview stations inside, four outside, and a shotgun start to speed things along. After 30 minutes the second wave of players replaces the first wave and the whole thing starts again. The Saints went second and took a humble, quiet approach to their first Super Bowl appearance.

By far the most entertaining outlet on Super Bowl Media Day was the newly formed OCNN – Ochocinco News Network. That’s right now, Chad Ochocinco even has a news team to make sure he gets all the media spotlight he deserves. Wow! Ray Rice was serving as a roving reporter for OCNN and got some laughs by asking the Colts defensive players, “Hey man, why did you hit me so hard?” and other poignant questions. Yes, friends, it was truly an entertaining experience that reinforced the old adage that reality is stranger than fiction any day.
