Peyton Manning v. Drew Brees is pretty sexy quarterback matchup for the Super Bowl. But where does rank in the pantheon of previous Super Bowl QB duels? Is it on par with Montana v. Marino in Super Bowl XIX? Superior to Bradshaw v. Staubach in Super Bowls X and XIII? Deserving to be in the same conversation as Elway v. Favre in XXXII? Mike Rosolio at SportsFanLive has a breakdown of all 43 Super Bowls -- including Collins v. Dilfer in XXXV -- and sees how Manning-Brees stacks up against history. Among them:

"XI. Ken Stabler vs Fran Tarkenton. By this time, Tarkenton had won an MVP. Kenny Stabler should be, but shockingly isn’t, in the Hall. Neither is Brees. Stabler posted a 103.4 rating and 27 TDs, and ungodly number for back then. They get the tilt because of the era. Better: Stabler/Tarkenton."

"XXI. Phil Simms vs John Elway. The names are glamorous, but the quarterbacks really weren’t. LT was obviously the biggest star in the game, and while Simms had an amazing Super Bowl (22/25, 268, 3/0, 150.9), he was essentially a caretaker. Very, very close, but not buying. Better: Manning/Brees."

"XXXIV. Kurt Warner vs Steve McNair. This was a nice duel, but it was the beginning of Warner and the Titans were all about Eddie George and defense, not McNair. What’s funny is that while this matchup was not heralded ahead of time, it ended up being one of the best QB duels in Super Bowl history. Admit it. Better: Manning/Brees."
