Week 10 Bears Fantasy Outlook

If you had Jay Cutler or Greg Olsen last week on your fantasy team you are a happy fake football player. Of course if you are a fan of the whole Bears team you probably weren't that happy. Thankfully this is fantasy! This week we get a game all to ourselves in the middle of the work week. Sit back (after you've set your fantasy lineups of course), relax, crack a cold one and enjoy some football. Remember, if your real team sucks, maybe your fake team can make you feel a little better!
Quarterbacks
Jay Cutler: I wish I could tell you that from here on out you can expect the kind of numbers he gave you against Arizona, but unless they get blown out of Lake Michigan like that every week (which sadly is a possibility) then you can expect more subdued totals. San Francisco's pass defense is about as middle of the road as it comes. They have been decent at home against the pass, but last week they were run over by Chris Johnson so Tennessee didn't need to pass much, and in their home game before that, Matt Ryan and Roddy White burnt them over and over. They can be beat, and Cutler has the arm to do it. He should be able to have a decent game, but don't expect the numbers from last week. START
Alex Smith: The 49ers have started throwing like they mean it since Smith was promoted. He has shown that he has fantasy potential, but his decision-making leads something to be desired. He's had one great half of football, a down game against a tough Indianapolis pass defense and then one good half and one horrid half against Tennessee. What does this all mean? He's not trustworthy. The Bears have given up two huge games to Palmer and Warner, but have had some decent games as well. Statistically they also fall about in the middle of the pack like San Fran does. Smith has a chance for a good game, but the chances are about 50/50 which aren't the kind of odds I want. SIT
Running Backs
Matt Forte: He hasn't been unbelievably bad as of late, but he hasn't been a top 5 pick to say the least. Last week even when they were down by, what was it, 73?, he was still gaining yards in the passing game. He will probably see a lot of Patrick Willis, but he's always a start because he is one of the few every-down backs in the league. The 49ers have been pretty tough against the run, with Chris Johnson being an exception, so there isn't much upside for Forte this week. 100 total yards and a touchdown is about his ceiling and that's if he's lucky. START
Frank Gore: The Bears rush defense has been fairly pitiful as of late. The bad Arizona rushing offense ran over them and even the Browns gained over a hundred yards and oh, don't forget about Benson coming home to roost, and Frank Gore is no Tim Hightower or Jamal Lewis! Gore is averaging a 127 total yards a game and that is with two down games. I can't see Gore totaling less than 125 yards and a touchdown, and that is the low end. START
Wide Receivers
Devin Hester, Johnny Knox, and Earl Bennett: In the past four weeks Hester has been targeted 44 times which ranks second in the league. In those games he has put up some good numbers. I think he will continue to get targets as long as Cutler isn't throwing it to Johnny Knox and he really isn't, at least as much as he has. Earl Bennett made an appearance last week in the blowout, but he is still just a possession receiver and isn't going to possess the ball all that often in a non-blowout game. Johnny Knox could have another breakout game at any moment, but I just don't think it happens in San Fran. So Devin Hester is a START and the rest SIT.
Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan: Crabtree looks like he is the clear No. 1 at this point. He has been getting the targets, but hasn't always turned them into numbers. Some of that has been on him and some on Smith, but I see them getting into sync soon. Will it come against the Bears? Maybe, but I don't see a huge game. If you start three wide receivers in a 12 or more team league I think Crabtree is START from here on out. Josh Morgan has been getting targets as well, but he just can't seem to live up to his potential. I'd SIT Morgan down until he shows something.
Tight Ends
Greg Olsen: Well, he finally had his break out game, but it came when Cutler through the ball 47 times. If they want to win I doubt you'll see those kind of numbers too often. I think Cutler comes back down to reality. But he will continue to be a red zone target and unless you have one of the top tight ends, START
Vernon Davis: He's been doing a little chirping about the Bears' defense, but sadly it's hard to say he is wrong. Davis is an amazing talent, but until this year that's all he was. Now he's backing up his talk with numbers. He is now an every week starter. Even against a tough Indy defense he managed a touchdown to save his fantasy day. He can do it against anyone and the Bears are anyone. START
Defenses
Chicago: It's sad to say, but you can't safely start the Bears defense. If you own them, drop them. SIT
San Francisco: It looked like they had a decent matchup at home last week, but they got run over by Chris Johnson. I think Cutler can throw on them, but he could also throw some picks. I'm not saying to drop the Steelers for them, but if your D is facing the Saints then they might make an OK spot START.
