First it was a group of frustrated Bears fans rewriting the team’s fight song and recording it as “Lie Down, Chicago Bears.” Now, some Bears fans have taken it a step further …

A group calling itself Bear Fans United  has launched a snazzy Web site and is raising money through PayPal donations to post a billboard voicing their disappointment with how the team is being run.

“Bear Fans United started out as word of mouth campaign with the goal of letting the McCaskey family know how the Bear fans truly feel,” the site says. “It has snowballed into a strong movement of passionate Bear fans just not form the Chicagoland area, but around the United States.

??“The lack of accountability has trickled on down the organization from the very top all the way to the players … and is sickening.  It would be wonderful to have a football mind in control of our football team for a change. At the very least we are in need of a new GM and a new head coach.”

The group claims to have raised nearly $7,500 – the cost for producing the billboard and placing an ad in one of the local papers.  The group has been covered by the Chicago media, including stories on the local NBC affiliate and ESPN Radio 1000, among others. The group claims to be run by Andrew “Uncle Meatball” Gasser of Oak Park and several others.

Fans are even encouraged to submit their own photos and videos on a media page. Check it out. There are a couple of pretty fun ones up there.

Stay tuned. If the billboard goes up, we’ll post a photo …

Bears-Vikings Notes

The Brett Favre-Brad Childress drama has been all over the Chicago media this week. But we think this soap opera will have a happy ending on Monday night. Nothing quite like going against a Bears defense without Adewale Ogunleye and Brian Urlacher to help right the Vikings’ ship.

Here’s a quick look at how the Bears have fared against the Vikings:

Brett Favre is 23-10 (1-0 as a Viking) against the Bears. He had 392 yards, and three touchdowns for a 112.5 rating when the teams met earlier this season.

The Vikings’ Adrian Peterson has crushed the Bears, rushing for 639 yards (127.8 a  game)  and nine touchdowns in five games against the Bears.

But there is some good news for Bears fans: Chicago has won seven of the past eight at home against the Vikings.

Ex-Bear/Viking Sighting

Former Bears (and Vikings) quarterback Jim McMahon was introdued on the video board during a break of Tuesday night's Chicago Blackhawks-San Jose Sharks hockey game to a loud ovation. Bald and sporting a goatee, McMahon polished off a beer while on-screen and the place went nuts.
