Here are the grades for the Panthers' defense, special teams and coaching after their upset win over the Vikings on Sunday night.

Defensive Line: Million dollar end Julius Peppers (one sack) manhandled Bryant McKinnie so badly, he was benched. The unit controlled the tempo so effectively, the Vikes executed 30 fewer plays and converted just 1 of 10 third-down attempts. Grade: A

The Panthers' defense, boosted by Julius Peppers, dominated the line of scrimmage against the Vikings.

Linebackers: A third-stringer not expected to play much of a role, fourth-year pro James Anderson paced the Panthers with 11 tackles, including nine solo and one sack. Anderson's development could give the Panthers exceptional future depth. With limited room beyond the line of scrimmage, Adrian Peterson was limited to 35 yards on 12 carries. Grade: B

Secondary:
In harmony with the first two lines of defense, the DBs did their job, helping frustrate Brett Favre, who had no TD passes. Chris Harris did not have a tackle, but intercepted a pass. Charles Godfrey had one tackle and one forced fumble. Grade: A

Special Teams:
Nothing special. John Kasay endured a rare blocked extra point. Dependable Jason Baker averaged just 30 yards per punt. Captain Munnerlyn averaged just two yards on three punt returns. Grade: D

Coaching:
John Fox is answering his critics, making a final stand to acquire the elusive contract extension. Is it too late? Grade: B
