The Coaching Search Continues

At this point, the Bills’ search for a head coach has become an embarrassment for not only the organization, but also for the dedicated fan base.

The latest head coach to turn down the job offer was Jim Harbaugh, head coach at Stanford University. Former Houston and Washington general manager Charlie Casserly of CBS was first to report this on NFL Today on Saturday evening prior to the Baltimore-Indianapolis divisional playoff game. Casserly stated that, according to sources of his, the Bills offered the head job to Harbaugh and he turned it down.

So, who’s left?

With Arizona now eliminated from the playoffs, this opens the door for Cardinals assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm to interview for the job. The problem is, he may not be interested. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reported that Grimm wants to learn more about an organization before agreeing to interview. Earlier this season, Grimm also told him that a job needs to be a fit for him. "It has to be the right situation," explained Grimm last month. "I know there are only 32 of those jobs, but I'm not going to jump on the first one if it doesn't fit."

Buffalo fans are also paying close attention to this afternoon’s match-up between the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings. One coordinator from each team is being targeted by the Bills’ front office. Assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has been a hot coordinator for a head coaching gig the past few seasons. He has not accepted a job offer thus far, especially with the raise he received from the Cowboys to stay. On the other side, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazer of the Vikings is also said to be a front-runner for the job. He interviewed with the Bills last week and reports say that the Bills came out very impressed with him.

In my opinion, if the Vikings should lose today, Frazier could officially get a job offer and become the new Buffalo Bills head coach sometime next week.

Stay tuned.
