It's less than 10 days away from the start of Bills 2010 training camp at St. John Fisher College, and on Monday the team guaranteed another rookie would be in Pittsford on time when they signed third-round pick Alex Carrington. The 23 year-old, 6-5, 285-pound defensive end was the 72nd overall pick in April's draft out of Arkansas State.

Aaron Wilson at the National Football Post reported that the deal is for four years and includes base salaries of $320K, $405K, $490K and $575K, with performance-based bonuses.

With his prototypical NFL size for a defensive end, Carrington is expected to play an integral role in Buffalo's transition to the 3-4 defense. In a 3-4 alignment, you'd like your defensive ends to have big frames but still be athletic, and Carrington certainly boasts both attributes. Though he played at smaller school, because he is nearly 6-6 and will play close to 290 this season, I see no reason why he'll have trouble getting to the quarterback and containing running backs on those outside pitches and sweep plays. Carrington's lucky because he doesn't have much competition in front of him. Marcus Stroud, Dwan Edwards and Spencer Johnson are the only true 3-4 DEs that will see time before him. I don't envision a Pro-Bowl appearance from the kid, but he'll fit right into George Edwards' scheme.

During his illustrious 44-game career at Arkansas State, he recorded 146 tackles, 40 tackles for loss and 21.5 sacks. He accumulated 33.5 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks over his final two seasons, when he became a starter.

Torell Troup and C.J. Spiller remain the last two unsigned rookies.
