Leinart Report Doesn't Excite Bills Fans

According to a Tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning, the Bills were among three teams that had discussed the possibility of trading for Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart. The Giants and Raiders were the other teams cited.

But the Bills issued a denial, saying they hadn't had any discussions with the Cardinals about Matt Leinart and aren’t anticipating any in the future.

Leinart has fallen out of favor with Ken Whisenhunt and the Cardinals coaching staff, and all signs are pointing to free agent signing Derek Anderson getting the starting job in the desert. This is a major disappointment for Cardinal fans considering the fact that Leinart was a first-round pick out of USC and was supposed to be the man to lead this franchise for the next decade. Leinart’s recent

comments and poor play in the pre-season has put him in the dog house, and now the organization is trying to figure out what to do with the southpaw from Southern Cal.

I surveyed a group of Bills fans to get their take on Schefter’s remarks this morning and whether they would like to see Leinart come to western New York.

“He doesnt have the leadership qualities i want in a qb, his teamates dont even want him as their starter...”
John, Detroit

“No Way! We might as well just have Trent put a #7 Leinart jersey on.....it would pretty much be the same thing as trading for Leinart.”
Josh, Woodbridge, Va.

“Leinart is not what this rebuilding team needs right now...a seemingly laid back underachiever that doesn't respond well to adversity. I'm excited to see what Edwards can do.”
Jeff, Rochester, N.Y.

“This shouldn't happen. You can't reach beyond dismal mediocrity by adding more of the same.”
Bill, Atlanta

“Leinart, even with the "gift" of being a first round pick in an explosive offense has never had better production than Edwards. And with his lack of work ethic coupled with questionable arm strength, I'd stick with the devil I know rather than the devil I don't. That said, if "Chix" thinks he's worth bringing in as competition or a replacement for Edwards and they can work magic with him, who am I to argue?”
Rich, Pittsburgh

"I don't see the purpose in adding more mediocrity to a team infamous for it." Tom, Buffalo

So there you have it. Bills fans across the country seem to be united on the fact that they don’t want anything to do with Leinart. Personally, it’s hard to disagree with them. A weak-armed QB will not succeed in the city of Buffalo. Secondly, his “Hollywood” persona also would be a major turnoff for fans in the area. Leinart is not an upgrade to Trent Edwards, so unless they feel like Leinart would be a better back-up than Ryan Fitzpatrick or Brian Brohm, then there is no reason to bring him and his price-tag in.
