Eliminated from the playoff contention and with nothing to play for other than a winning season, the Atlanta Falcons did not quit down the stretch at the Meadowlands on Sunday.
As a result, they kept the dream of breaking that pesky little curse of never posting back-to-back winning seasons alive. Needless to say, it was a kinder and gentler day around the Web for the Dirty Birds after the 10-7 win over the New York Jets.
The AJC’s beat writer D. Orlando Ledbetter opined that cornerback Brent Grimes redeemed himself with those two picks of Mark Sanchez. He also asks the question of whether the Jets keyed in on Turner’s sore right ankle and reports that Atlanta’s leading rusher will continue to try to work his way back to the Falcons’ lineup.
Jeff Schultz used trains, planes and automobiles on a rather circuitous route to the Meadowlands to witness Ryan’s game-winning comeback and blogs about how the quarterback shot off rust to engineer the Falcons’ go-ahead score.
His counterpart Mark Bradley writes about the “cold” Atlanta Falcons while the AJC’s Bird Cage blog calls this win a “Character Game.”
Falcons Examiner Daniel Cox writes that it might not have looked pretty, but the Dirty Birds got the points when they mattered most.
The Falcoholic calls the club “gutsy” and points out the Ryan did not only dodge Jets defenders on that last TD throw.
ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas wraps up the Falcons-Jets game and names Grimes the No. 1 riser of the week.
Finally, atlantafalcons.com’s J. Mike writes that that the Falcons passed an important test in the eyes of coach Mike Smith and gives us news that DB Antoine Harris is headed to IR.
